For what I'm doing, I bought a roll of poly tubing off ebay for super cheap. I think each bag costs me less than a dollar.

I use the nylon bag from fiberglasssupply.com Item #M13-7890 It is cheaper than the poly tube, and lasts waaaay longer. I was getting holes in the poly on the very first pull, while this last nylon bag I used for at least a dozen baggings without any loss of seal. Definitely tougher and more resistant to tearing when pulling the bag around under vacuum.

Nylon bag film (in tubing form) from ACP. I suspect it's the same stuff Shwuz uses. Long-lasting & with good stretch.

Do yourself a favor - follow Benny's and Schwuz's advice. I have a giant roll of poly tube that now use for other things, but really avoid using it to bag.

TRUTH

I got the 36" wide version  with the bag clamps...I can slide the whole rockerbed+board in the bag and clamp it...

This is the only bag I've owned and I have put more than 20 boards through it...no holes, no problems...the clamps are great because they seal tight and quick so no futzing around with stupid/expensive mastic tape.

Lots of vac bagging questions today...

I did everything on the cheap with great results. 4 mil poly sheet from Home Depot, 2" masking tape (the cheap stuff), left over bubble wrap from a move. My pump, however, was a new Gast ($125 on ebay) rated for continuous duty with vac and pressure guages and bleeder valves (no need for switches, vacuum reservoirs, check valves and all that complicated stuff...just turn it on, let it run up to the desired vac level by adjusting the bleeder valve and then just leave it).

I'm not experienced like most posters but my experience was so easy that I scratch my head when I read about the com;icated systems of some people.

ive tried lots of different systems
things that seem simple. can cause big problems without contingency plans or if your not around to keep an eye on things
some things seem complicated, but make things simpler by reducing steps
the last thing you want to do is be chasing leaks when you have to go to work
or listen to a vacuum pump running continously all day.

hears the deal

tube
mastic
no conectors(just mastic)
it takes 5 mins to close, seal and empty bag (no clamps or tape etc )
no leaks (pump runs for 3 seconds every 5 to 10 minutes)
just run the tube through the end of the bag

btw a roll of mastic is about the price of a roll of good qaulity tape

wouter
just slide the whole rocker table and board in
and lay down a strip of mastic across the end of the tube or bag
stick the pipe across the mastic strip and put some mastic over the top of the pipe so the bag seals down on the pie top as well
place a bit of shade cloth at the end of the pipe to stop it sucking the plastic in
seal the bag down on the mastic
and put a a bit of extra mastic around the pipe if neccesary

havent got a picture sorry
but theres no conectors

i only bag once btw

you have serious issues, paul.

I have used mastic, I find the bag clamps cleaner, quicker, less wasteful and more cost effective...it is a more elegant solution.

my personal experience with mastic was that it was FKN STUPID compared to the alternatives.

I hadn't even read all the way down to your post when I quoted Shwuz so if you want to take my judgement of a particular product as a personal judgement
upon yourself then that's on you.

you continue to look like a beligerent douchebag flying off the handle like this. even moreso when you make a poor attempt to tear me and my builds down..."claiming CDD" doesn't even warrant a response as I've done no such thing.

something tells me that if the compsand site was worth two shits you'd be spending a whole lot less time around here trying to drag everyone else down with your jingoistic nonsense and huie-chugging.

The ACP site has everything from ports, to clamps, and bags.  Using the tube bag is very easy.  If you go the clamp route I would recommend to pre-clamp the clamps when they are new and leave them clamped.  When they are new they are finger killers to try and seal the bag.  Once they relax it is pretty easy.  The 36" width bag is good for surfboards.

I prefer the tubes because once everything is sealed in the bag it is clean and can be moved and handled.  If I use my rocker table I can adjust the position of the board while it is under vacuum.

If I don't need a table in the case of a stringered board the tube will allow you to pull all the bag material over the rail making for a smooth flat transition from the deck to the bottom or top.

Hi,

I am going to vaccum seal my surfboard.  I was wondering if you could use a normal vacuum? Also where did you guys find your instructions for how to do it?     Ive heard that if you vacuum bag it a couple times you dont need to use fiberglass and resin,  is that true?

Any tips or instructions would be awesome
