Pura Vida No Pro - Custom Surfboard

www.puravidanopro.com

Check out this website - a pretty cool outreach to the youth in Costa Rica through surfing. There was a local fundraiser here in South Carolina and I donated a custom shape to be raffled off. The winner wanted a 60's style log - triple stringer. I ordered up a 9'8Y 'regular' foam density with cedar stringers (pretty and smells good in the shaping room!) from US blanks. I was pretty stoked be be able to get Clark service in a post Clark world - custom stringers, densities, rocker and the foam is just like Clark. Blanks were a little pricey but service (through Atlantic Surfoam in Melbourne Fl) was top notch! I am going to give a little photo journal of this one so keep posted.

Re: [grasshopper] Pura Vida No Pro - Custom Surfboard

Did some more shaping on this bad boy. All done except for some touch ups and the finish screening.
This is the first triple stringer I have shaped - its was kind of a pain to shape but it looks really nice. Wish I was better at sharpening my block planes!
I use a new microplane sureform on this one - that works really well on the stringers, especially at the rail. Does not cut the foam as aggressively as a regular sureform though. I left the regular blade on my short sureform (to cut down and dig out areas quickly) and the microplane on the longer sureform to smooth things out.
I have some 8oz Volan that I will be glassing this one with! I will update again when I start glassing.
